Traditional Career Development is Obsolete
It's Time to Upgrade Our Thinking and Act Differently
We live in the age of disruption and acceleration.
Career paths today are less linear and hard skills have a shorter shelf life than ever. Industries are being disrupted in bulk, forcing us to 'learn how to learn', to build resilience and increase our adaptability.
In this new environment, most professionals are forced to make more frequent career decisions and to demonstrate flexibility, learning how to develop the right skills and navigate professional changes on the go.
It is time we start crafting 'antifragile' professional careers.
“Some things benefit from shocks; they thrive and grow when exposed to volatility, randomness, disorder, and stressors and love adventure, risk, and uncertainty. Yet, in spite of the ubiquity of the phenomenon, there is no word for the exact opposite of fragile. Let us call it antifragile. Antifragility is beyond resilience or robustness. The resilient resists shocks and stays the same; the antifragile gets better” — Nassim Nicholas Taleb.
As we enter the 'age of change', we should drop traditional career development mantras and focus on becoming 'antifragile,' or 'luck ready,' to benefit (and not perish) from the increasing randomness and interconnection of today's world of work.
My Mission: To Help Executives Boost Their Professional Careers
Hi! I am Rafa.
I am an executive search and leadership development consultant, an executive coach and a career fitness professor. But this is far from being the only thing I have done in life. In fact, at 40 years of age, I am on my 6th professional career, an unusual path that has allowed me to learn (not always without pain!) about performance, change management and non-linear career development.
In my coaching practice, I partner up with high-potential executives who find themselves at critical inflexion points in their careers. My mission is to help them find the right job, achieve their most important professional goals, master career transitions or even completely reinvent themselves.
I combine my non-traditional 20-year track record as a professional racing driver (1998 Spanish Formula 3 Champion), as an investment banker, and as a 3x founder, with my passion for professional development and my training as a certified executive and organisational coach under the Columbia Coaching Certification Programme.
